Mauna Loa
41”H x 30”W
The vibrant colors of the red and orange color palate create drama and passion and have awakened my senses to an entirely new world. Mauna Loa is estimated to be about 600-750 years old, located on the Big Island of Hawaii, and has historically been considered the largest volcano on Earth. Volcanic materials break down and weather to form some of the most fertile soils on earth, cultivation of which has produced abundant food and fostered civilizations. The internal heat associated with young volcanic systems has been harnessed to produce geothermal energy. The use of red and orange erupting in this piece not only shows how volcanos can have a positive impact on life, but also create a place we call "paradise".
Collage elements for contrast and layering. Collage of a volcanic color palette and compositional elements. Raw edge applique and free motion quilting.
